Céline Rodrigues
Research Fellow
Céline Rodrigues is a PhD candidate in International Relations at Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Portugal. The research intends to present developments in the Arctic region through scenarios considering the period 2023-2035 that will help Portugal to consider the Arctic region and replace itself in the Atlantic taking into account the upcoming connection of the North Atlantic and Arctic oceans facing maritime security and human security challenges in both regional contexts.
The primary area of research is on human security of Arctic Indigenous peoples with the thesis focusing on Human security of Inuit and Sámi in Canada and Finland: comparing Arctic policies, published in book version.
She participated in conferences and has published reflections and articles about the NATO and the Arctic, Governor General Mary May Simon and the rapprochement of Portugal to the Atlantic Ocean, the latter published by Instituto de Defesa Nacional (IDN, Portugal).
She is a member of APECS Portugal having participated in conferences, namely SCAR conference 2023 held in Lisbon. She is also included in the list of 100 Women in Polar Science.
Céline presented her research at the first Climate Change and Security workshop organized by NATO STO-CMRE Centre of Maritime Research and Experimentation held in Lerici in October 2023. She is currently at the Arctic Centre in Rovaniemi, University of Lapland as Visiting Researcher and also integrated in the IPRI – Instituto Português de Relações Internacionais (Universidade Nova de Lisboa).
