Mihai Giboi

NAADSN Research Fellow

Mihai Giboi is a Research Fellow at NAADSN. He graduated with an MA in History at Wilfrid Laurier University (2021), where he studied how the Canadian Ranger Enhancement Project, of 1995 to 1999, was implemented amid defence spending cuts during the Chrétien government. He also received his BA in History from Mount Allison University (2020), where he studied British and European political and military history.

Previously, Mihai has worked as a Research Assistant at the CDA Institute, where he contributed to developing the Expert Series podcast, and conducted some interviews of his own, most notably with LGen (ret’d) Andrew Leslie, which discussed military procurement and the readiness of the Canadian Armed Forces.

Currently, his research interests are in deterrence theory, nuclear strategy, and emerging threats, focusing on considerations beyond weapon technology. He is also interested in Arctic geopolitics, with emphasis placed on the potential spillover effects of great power rivalries in Europe and the Pacific between the United States, and Russia and China, into the region.
