The Elgar Concise Encyclopedia of Polar Law fulfills the central purpose of any encyclopedia – that of providing a concise, accurate and rigorous overview of established knowledge. In the spirit of furthering this important mission, some of the authors of the Arctic entries of the Encyclopedia will share their views on pervasive misapprehensions regarding the Arctic and set the record straight.
