Dr. François Haman
Network Coordinator
For more than 20 years, Dr. François Haman has studied the effects of extreme environments on human performance and survival. Even though his research has included the quantification of the effects of heat and high altitude, he is recognized worldwide as a cold expert. From the laboratory to the field, he has applied fundamental research methodologies to studies in Northern First Nations communities across Canada as well as in cold studies with the Canadian, US, German and Finnish military. He has received funding from governmental agencies (Canada, US), chronic disease associations and the private sector. He has a network of global collaborators that focuses on various aspects of extreme environment performance and survival. In the latter part of his career, he has intensified his passion as a knitter by bringing researchers and research-minded people together. As such, his work focuses on optimizing the impact and application of strategic solutions to increase operational readiness and ensure mission success during cold weather operations by reducing risks of cold-related impairments and injuries.
