Dr. Karen Everett

NAADSN Fellow

Dr. Karen Everett is a senior research associate with the Louis-Edmond-Hamelin Chair affiliated with the University of the Arctic, at Université Laval and a Fulbright Arctic Initiative Scholar (2024-2026). Karen’s research includes: 1) Arctic security, including issues pertaining to borders and comprehensive security; 2) social and economic conditions across the circumpolar Arctic; 3) Arctic policy and governance; and 4) trade and the Canadian North. She is also interested in where these areas intersect and what this means for security policy development in the circumpolar Arctic.

Karen completed her Fulbright Arctic Initiative IV exchange at the Institute of Arctic Studies at the John Sloan Dickey Center for International Understanding, Dartmouth College in Fall 2025. Previously, Karen was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Université Laval, a Canada Fellow with the Polar Research and Policy Initiative (PRPI), and a Research Scholar with the Arctic Futures Initiative at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) in Austria. Karen completed her PhD program at the Frost Centre for Canadian Studies and Indigenous Studies at Trent University.
