Leandra Brient

Northern Advisor

Leandra Brient is a veteran Canadian Ranger with 18 years of service and a diverse, field-tested background in Arctic operations, emergency response, and logistical coordination. Originally from the Netherlands, Leandra is fluent in English, French, and Dutch. Her ability to operate across languages and cultures strengthens her work in both civil and military contexts throughout the North.

Based primarily in northern British Columbia, she has worked and traveled extensively across the Canadian Arctic, including deployments, personal expeditions and patrols in Yukon, the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, and most recently Ellesmere Island. She has built her career through hands-on experience in remote environments, integrating technical expertise with lived northern knowledge.

With a strong foundation in Search and Rescue (SAR), Leandra is highly skilled in swiftwater rescue, flat ice rescue, boat operations, avalanche safety, and lost person behavior. She is currently working on becoming a licensed drone operator, integrating modern technology into remote search, reconnaissance, and logistical support missions. Leandra’s interagency experience includes close coordination with the RCMP, and she has also served as a firefighter, bringing a well-rounded perspective on emergency response and public safety in remote and often hazardous environments.

Her professional work has included remote mineral exploration operations and service as a loadmaster, coordinating critical airlift operations in isolated northern environments. These roles have sharpened her expertise in aviation logistics, cargo movement, and supporting operations in fly-in-only locations. Deeply connected to the land, Leandra lives off-grid in a remote community and is well-versed in cold weather survival, extended winter travel, and wilderness living. Her family regularly undertakes Arctic expeditions, most recently completing a 1,600 km snowmobile journey from Fort McPherson to Old Crow and Herschel Island. The route required advanced terrain analysis, navigation, and self-sufficiency, reflecting her deep knowledge of northern landscapes and her commitment to traditional travel, cultural continuity, and exploration.

In addition to her operational and field work, Leandra owns and operates a small-batch coffee roastery together with her husband, serving her northern community with locally roasted coffee. Her business reflects her entrepreneurial mindset, sustainability values, and dedication to supporting small, remote communities through local enterprise.

Leandra brings a rare blend of technical capability, logistical experience, and grounded northern insight to critical conversations on Arctic sovereignty, civil-military collaboration, and climate resilience.
