Ryan Vance
Research Fellow
Ryan is a fourth-year Bachelor of Arts student in International Relations at the University of British Columbia. He is an alumnus of the NATO Field School as well as the NAADSN led Arctic Field School. Ryan previously served as a Junior Policy Analyst at Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) and as a Riparian Enhancement Team Leader with Dillon Consulting, experiences that sparked his keen interest in climate security, particularly in the Arctic and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
Ryan has completed various NATO simulations, including the Negotiation, Mediation, and Decision-Making course at the NATO Defence College in Rome, as well as the 39th International Model NATO Conference in Washington, D.C., where he was awarded the “Superior Delegate Award.”
Ryan’s research interests revolve around the implications of climate change for the Canadian military and Canadian sovereignty in the Arctic, as well as the role of climate change in the security of NATO’s Southern Flank.
