Taylor Hoggarth
NAADSN Research Fellow
Taylor is a proud member of the Gwich’in Nation, holding his status with the Teetł’it Gwich’in in Fort McPherson, NWT. Additionally, he has family connections to the Vuntut Gwitchin in Old Crow, Yukon. Although having these connections, he did not grow up in those communities. His Mother is a Sixties Scoops child and was adopted out of her community at birth. Taylor grew up in Lakefield, Ontario across the lake from his Father’s First Nation, Curve Lake First Nation. Taylor is also a proud Two-Spirit individual that relies on teachings given to him from his Father’s Anishinaabe Nation.
Taylor completed his undergraduate degree in Indigenous Studies and Sociology at Trent University and will graduate in June 2024. During his time in his undergraduate degree, he used many assignments to research and learn more about the Gwich’in’s history and community, including their relations to the Arctic. Taylor will be starting his master’s degree in Canadian and Indigenous Studies at Trent University in Fall 2024. He has an interest in researching about the Arctic and gender security within that area.
Taylor plans on pursuing higher education after his master’s with the potential of a PhD. Taylor believes he is a continuous learner for life, especially regarding both of his First Nations’ cultures and communities.
